It's hard to believe that it's been over a month since DJ Lillyanne flew up from Long Beach to tear sh*t up here in Chico. The amount of people who showed up in costume was amazing and the amount of folks who jammed the dancefloor for Lillyanne was proof positive that this town is starved for quality dance music whether the local media is ready to acknowledge that fact or not. To all my friends around the world who have been bugging me for a mix here tis complete with tracklisting. Please enjoy, it's pretty cheeky. Manic One brought some different flava to the Future/Now dancefloor and tried his hand as a club DJ something he doesn't get an opportunity to do very often and once again showed why he is one of the most versatile local DJs out there. The crowd responded in kind with reckless glee something these parties are getting a reputation for, the other is the unfettered sexual energy being exhibited by folks of all ages and persuasions. Lillyanne's slow and sleazy house music was certainly the dancefloor prescription needed because the crowd went wild in a big way for her mix of West Coast cosmic house, 80s influenced electro, and leftfield house. For me the highlight was the remixes of the Eurythmics "Let's Just Close Our Eyes" and "The Main Thing" by Roxy Music played back to back. It was a real Ewan Pearson move and made me realize that not only was this Lillyanne a nice person but a great DJ, in a world class DJ kinda way. We all lucked out that night because we saw a DJ that was good as anything going on tonight in Brooklyn, London, or Berlin and there is a possibilty that may never happen in Chico again. Of course the amazing afterhours party that followed gave me many hours to savor the sweet success of such an amazing night of which Chico has provided more than usual in 2007 but never enough to satisfy my restless need for quality, age-appropriate dance music.
I know the bloggers are aleady all over this mix because of Lillyanne but all I gotta say I wish you coulda been there to hear all two hours of her amazing mix. You certainly missed out on a real treat.
