Beardyman vs JungleDrummer vs DJFU @ The Bluecoat, Liverpool .
Tonight’s gig at the newly reopened Bluecoat is intimate and jaw dropping in equal proportions. Armed only with a chaos pad, sampler and his magical voice, Beardy man is taking beatboxing to the next level, just as you would expect from the only person to defend and regain the UK beatboxing championship. Making noises that should not be possible, Beardyman, samples and loops to create a mash up of all things good from soul to rave to hardcore jungle; this guy is like Jamie Lidell without all the electronics hardwear. With guest appearances on the new Groove Armada and Quemest, promoting his new night at Cargo and a string of festival and club appearances lined up, it’s going to be a busy time for the bearded one.
What happens next does not happen at your average drum and bass/ jungle night. For the next 40 minutes we are treated to a drum and scratch battles reaching at times 200 bpm+, this is not for the faint hearted. The first time I saw JungleDrummer and Fu was at last years Glastonbury, for 30 minutes I thought it was a dj playing great old jungle classics, its only when I pushed my way to the front I realised I had been so wrong. Tonight’s show is stripped down, usually armed with a host of MC’s, what you get is a world class drummer and dj battling it out, we get new routines, live remixing, precision drumming and unbelievable dj skills, this does not just rip up the dancefloor, it rips it up, smashes it and then re-lays it and rips it up again, this is about as intense and in your face it can get without been a bit silly. With an album in the pipeline and loads of shows lined up make sure you check these two out.
