This show is one of the most amazing pieces of theatre I have ever seen in my life, I was mesmerised from beginning to end. Dead Wedding is collaboration between contemporary electronic genius, Mira Calix and macabre puppeteers, Faulty Optic. The show is an amazing re-invention of the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice tragically dies on her wedding day, but Orpheus, her fiancée, bargains to retrieve her from the Land of the Dead. Dark comedy, bizarre film and fantastic puppetry are played out against the swirling background of Mira’s compositions. Mira, joined by Opera North, mix tension, distorted voices and lush soundscapes, this is both original and as away from the mainstream as you could get, a brand new perspective on a classic story.
